Apologies for the auto-post from the NotObvious blog...am disabling it today.
Nick Wangler (@SweetTea023) asked me why people hate Flash (no doubt referred to me by @Wygle or one of my Seattle cohorts). The answer is far more than 140 and has been answered posited and pondered by many more qualified than me. I will, however, endeavour to round out the corners of the various arguments against it and be as non-duplicative as possible.
Security
A very quick search on NVD shows 77 vulnerabilities for "Flash Player". Flash is an add-on for your browser; an expansion that you install (or have installed for you by an OS distribution or computer manufacturer) in addition to the base components. By default, that creates yet-another vector for attackers and even levels the playing field a bit for them since they can target multiple platforms and multiple browser configurations with roughly the same exploit. Believe me, Microsoft & Apple do not need any more help making their browsers or their systems more vulnerable to attack and we certainly do not need to give the malware writers more soft targets.

Ian "tooting" in the new year

He couldn't quite figure out how to get it to "toot" properly, so he just kept making a noise that sounded like a "toot" and using the noisemaker as a bullhorn (after a fashion).
Way too much cuteness bundled up in that little guy.
Howdy, true believers. Picking a house tonight, but am testing MarsEdit 2.0.1 with Drupal 5.2 at the moment while I wait for the latest caffeine injection to kick-in.
Always seeing if there's a better way to blog.
Wow. The Live Preview feature *really* slows down typing (very CPU intensive).
UPDATE: So, looking at the post, then edited post (with categories) it seems like the interface between the two is good. It would be great if it would let me post to the story area rather than the blog area, but that may be configurable (I'll check the forums). Line breaks work fine and the posting is fast. Flickr integration is also a nice feature as well.

Hey folks. Just testing a post from Microsoft's new Live Writer beta. It's pretty decent and has recognized my TypePad MCall blog and Drupal setup fairly well so far. It pulled in all my Drupal categories, figured out which node type to use and even managed to grab the necessary templates from the current theme and let me do an accurate preview of what the post will look like.
I still - for the most part - use the web interface in Drupal to post and have been trying to discipline myself to use ecto, but Live Writer is giving me reason to consider trying to get it to work under CrossOver (I'm using it now under XP via Parallels 3 beta).
If all goes well with an actual post, I'll try a few more from it and report the results.
