Trip update/recap sometime tomorrow (Mon). In the meantime, here are the pix from Oak Creek Canyon & Sedona. Oh, and a warning to only go to the Flagstaff Brewing Company for beverages and burgers. I'd steer clear of it completely, tho.

The day began with an early start (as you can tell by the morning Vegas pix). Despite it being kinda fuzzy (it was early), I think the mountains and mesas in the distance outshine anything Vegas has to offer.

We ate at the Southwest Diner in Boulder City, NV and had a really great breakfast. I highly recommend it if you're doing a similar road trip. We didn't stop at the dam, but there are some pictures before it, tho.

As you can see, I upgraded to a Mustang and it was a good thing I did. The economy car would not have survived the trip to the Grand Canyon West to view the Skywalk. The reproduction of the indian village was more interesting than the man-made marvel, and there are no pictures of us on it since they took our camera away (they were selling pictures and we had already paid enough just to walk on the thing). The Hualapai have their work cut out if they plan on making this a destination. AZ needs to pave about 14 miles of really crappy road and the site needs a much more organized system for getting folks booked and around. Believe it or not, they ran out of water and closed the restrooms! I'm glad we won't be there Friday or Saturday. Since they under-estimated the crowds just a week after opening, I don't want to know what it will be like on Easter weekend there.

The drive to Flagstaff was speedy and un-eventful, save for a serendipitous stop at In-N-Out (I've always wanted to go to one for some reason). They even let me take some of the stuff they hand out in kids' meals! I'll scan some of it in when we get back.

Flagstaff is a nice, college town and the La Quinta is an equally nice hotel (though not nearly as luxurious as the Platinum in Vegas). We at at Corea House, a small Korean restaurant right in the middle of town. Good food and a very nice host. We grabbed some coffee at a local coffee house and did some shopping to round out the evening.

Tomorrow - weather permitting - we hit the Canyon South Rim and go for a decent hike.

Wanted to get one last post in before heading to “Vegas, baby, Vegas”. In truth, Vegas is a mere rest stop for our journey to Arizona. We’re going to hit the new skywalk and then do some hiking in the Canyon. If we survive, we should be back Sunday. I really doubt I’ll be able to post from anywhere but the airport and the hotel in Vegas, but you may see a pic or two if I can find a signal somewhere.

Mom & the kids will be holding down the fort (yes, we get to go alone!!!). It will be really weird missing the whole Easter celebrations with everyone, but the break will be appreciated.

Let’s just hope I can hold my tongue with the TSA.
