Two Iranian sisters convicted of adultery face being stoned to death after the supreme court upheld the death sentences against them, the Etemad newspaper Monday quoted their lawyer as saying.

The two were found guilty of adultery -- a capital crime in Islamic Iran -- after the husband of one sister presented video evidence showing them in the company of other men while he was away.

I keep hearing about how the cultures our soldiers are fighting to protect have been civilized for centuries.

There is nothing civil about these all-too-frequent pride-based death sentences.

This is civilized behavior? Seriously?

If a religion really makes it that difficult to figure out that it's not OK to kill someone because they dressed differently, is it really something that belongs in the civilized world?

I learned about it via an On the Media program segment this past week and managed to find a few episodes on the internets and scoot them over to our AppleTV (thanks to the makers of iSquint).

The show is funny, definitely Canadian and manages to toss in enough insight and discussion on modern Islam (and society in general) to make it thoughtfully entertaining.

First time since coming back from Toronto that I wished we lived in Canada.
