Simple Weather Shines On The iPhone

The fine folks over at Simple Weather have kicked out a mobile version that looks great on your iPhone. Bookmark simpw.com and you'll have speedy, one-touch access to current conditions and local forecast info.

(It also works on more pedestrian mobile devices)

I kinda knew this was coming and it's great to see it finally in the wild. Nice job, guys!

Simple, weather

From the land of cheesesteaks (boy, do I miss cheesesteaks since moving to Seattle) comes SimpleWeather. Taking the Google-ish approach to current conditions and forecasts, the site is amazingly fast and highly readable in all browsers. Just input your ZIP code or location (it's world-savvy) and get your weather stats fix.

If you are a Twitter fan, you can follow your closest city (they explain everything here).

If you do check them out, be sure to poke them for an iPhone-friendly page. Right now, i.wund.com is kicking their butts with their mobile CSS/layout.

Weather Station Update

I had time over the TG break to get the sensors "roughed in". I think I've found as optimal of a position as I'm going to for the outdoor temperature/humidity sensors and the anemometer is going to be inaccurate anywhere I put it (unless someone wants to foot the bill for getting it above the tree line and then getting the signal to the unit somehow), but I setup the tripod anyway. The rain gauge was also tricky since we have so many trees and need as much open ground unobstructed due to the dog. It registered a fairly correct amount (when compared to the Lynnwood official data) so I'm going to make it a permanent fixture (until we replace the deck, at least).

I'm going to let the whole thing run a week or two before getting it hooked up to the network and letting wx200d collect to it's silicon-coated heart's content.

Well, that didn't take long...

We may be in store for an early tropical storm. Found this waiting for me this morning:

2007 Valentine's Day Storm

More bark than bite, but it was a pain to shovel. Thankfully, I had to work from home and could not do much, leaving the hard stuff for the fam *:^)

Check out weather.com's new interactive weather map. It's kinda like Google Maps for weather nuts.

I'll add it as a link to the weather site later today.

Tropical Depression TWO (2006) Getting Better Organized

Tagged:

TD TWOTropical Depression TWO looks like it's going to make things wet on the east coast and should be close enough and powerful enough (tropical storm strength only) to cause some wet, humid weather for PA/NJ in about three days or so. Right now, it's about 200 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, NC. Maximum winds, so far, are around 35 mph.

You can follow it's progress at MegaTrack for the Web, right here on RDN, and view the official advisory over at the NHC Tropical Prediction Center site.
